DESCRIPTION: The Mormon Battalion Monument Commission was established in 1915 with the express purpose of coordinating the effort to memorialize Utah's Mormon Battalion which had served as a source of pride for many in the state. This series contains correspondence, commission minutes, donation information, reports, programs, publications and speeches all related to the planning, financing and construction. Documents in this series provide evidence that the commission carefully planned all phases of the monument construction and that many people were willing to donate money to ensure that the monument was completed. Some of the documents also provide a history of members of the Mormon Battalion via brief biographical sketches sent to the commission from Battalion member's descendants.
