DESCRIPTION: This series contains correspondence documenting the efforts of the Utah Educational Survey Committee. The Committee was a fact finding body appointed in 1939 by Governor Henry H. Blood. Their purpose was to identify significant problems of public education in Utah and to produce a report for presentation to the Governor "on or before July 1, 1940." The correspondence marks the communications that flowed between the Committee members (who served on a volunteer basis), the Committee's paid research director, schools and universities throughout Utah, as well as national educational bodies and expert individuals that were consulted. Some administrative records are also included indicating budgetary constraints and details of office organization.
