TITLE: Utah Local Government Records Preservation Grant Program records
DATES: 1992-1998.
ARRANGEMENT: Alphabetical by subject, thereunder chronological.

DESCRIPTION: These records document the application and awarding of Utah State Archives Preservation Grants. The Utah State Legislature appropriated funds to support a grant program for the preservation of local government records. The Utah State Archives administers these funds. The Utah Local Records Grant Program was designed to enhance the quality of archival preservation and records management of public records in local government agencies. The first grant was awarded to Salt Lake City Public Works in 1990 and no award was made in 1991. In 1992, a formal program was developed, grant forms were created and distributed and funds were then awarded in June to two recipients (Vernal City and Piute County). Each year grant applications were distributed to local governments and completed applications were due April 1. Applications were reviewed by the State Archivist plus various archives staff members including local government archivists, and supervisors of preservation and records analysis. The grants were then awarded before June 30. These records include completed grant applications, a summary report on all grant applications (local agency, amount requested, purpose of request, and grant totals), notification letters, copies of contracts between grantees and State Archives, and related correspondence. The grant program was discontinued in 1998 and was replaced with the Millennial Records Preservation Project in 1999.
