TITLE: Public land selection and purchase applications

DESCRIPTION: Private individuals applied to the Land Board for specific tracts of land. The Land Board in turn secured the approval of the United States government (all lands were federal land initially after being acquired from Mexico in 1848) to transfer to Utah, the lands selected. These are applications from individuals asking the Land Board to select specific tracts which the individual, once Utah got the land, wanted to buy from the territory/state. The applications include the individual's name and address plus a thorough description of the land covering legal location, vegetation, soil, proposed use, etc.
