DESCRIPTION: This series contains correspondence, memorandum, minutes, and reports pertaining to Utah's rights and responsibilities as a member of the seven-state Colorado River Compact. These are executive level records created and maintained by the office of Governor George Dern, who acted as the principal agent for Utah on issues related to the 1922 Colorado River Compact. The records here reflect Utah's interaction with other states on Colorado River issues, as well as negotiations and discussions on the 1928 Boulder Canyon Project, which had the effect of specifying annual allotments of water from the Colorado River for the lower basin states of Arizona, Nevada, and California.
