AGENCY: State Planning Board

SERIES: 21001
TITLE: Water resources Great Salt Lake diking project reports
DATES: 1932-1937.
ARRANGEMENT: Chronological.

DESCRIPTION: These are reports of the Great Salt Lake diking project, 1932 to 1937, made by the State Planning Board members and consulting engineers. The proposed plan was to dike sections of the Great Salt Lake on the northern and eastern sides of Antelope Island to allow the Weber River and the Jordan River to create a fresh water reservoir. The purpose of this reservoir was to supply water for industrial, agricultural, and recreational uses but the plan was found to be too costly and impractical due to the salinity of the water. Included in this series are preliminary reports, meeting transcripts, investigations of technical problems, maps, cost estimates of hydroelectric power, cost estimates of pumping water, and studies of water levels and water storage capacities.
