AGENCY: Governor (2021- : Cox)

SERIES: 214
TITLE: Newspaper clippings
DATES: 1949-1957.
ARRANGEMENT: Alphanumerical by topic.

DESCRIPTION: This series contains newspaper clippings relating to the gubernatorial election of 1956 and various issues facing state government at the end of that year. The purpose of the clipping files is unclear. While the clippings may have been collected by Governor Lee's office, it may be that they were collected by George Clyde's staff as they tracked publicity about Clyde's campaign and as the Governor-elect worked to come up to speed on current issues in preparation for his inauguration. Regardless of how this series came into being, it contains more information about George D. Clyde's election and preparation for taking office than any other topic.
