AGENCY: State Planning Board

SERIES: 21991
TITLE: Advisory commission on prison removal records
DATES: 1938-1939.
ARRANGEMENT: Alphabetical by document type.

DESCRIPTION: The Planning Board, through Advisory Commission secretary and planning board director, Sumner Margetts, worked to select, acquire, and develop the site for the new State Prison. The prison at Sugarhouse was to be relocated and the new site was to be chosen by the committee. Reports were made of problems pertaining to the disposition of land in the Sugarhouse site and the marketability of the area. The commission studied such items as land ownership, water supply, quality of soil, and obtaining rights-of-way. This series contains petitions for consideration by landowners willing to sell their lands; maps of the areas under consideration; some photos of the areas; reports on prison conditions; reports detailing the decisions surrounding the choice of the point-of-the-mountain site; a report on the necessity to move the Sugarhouse prison to a new site; and studies of prison labor problems.
