DESCRIPTION: Brigham Young's files as governor of Utah Territory and ex officio territorial Superintendent of Indian Affairs, 1851-1858, divided into three subseries.

His executive files include correspondence and other documents relating to Young's interaction with federal government, other states and territories, federal appointees to territorial positions, and local territorial officials. Young's files as Superintendent of Indian Affairs include his correspondence with local Indian agents, as well as reports and other papers. Final subseries includes statements, accounts, and other documents relating to reimbursements for Indian-related claims that continued to be pursued for years after Young's governorship ended. Business-related correspondence which provide unique information about agency functions, policies, procedures, or programs. These records document material discussions and decisions made regarding all agency interests, and may originate on paper, electronic mail, or other media. This correspondence is filed separately from program case files, and project files.
