DESCRIPTION: From 1852-1887 County Probate Courts in Utah Territory held jurisdiction over divorces. District Courts also held the same jurisdiction. Box Elder County Probate Court retained files for divorce cases heard by the court. A file generally begins with an initiating petition for divorce and concludes with a divorce decree detailing the court decision in the case. Files also include any additional documents created and filed with the court in the matter. These documents might include such things as exhibits, summons and subpoenas issued to parties in the case, and fee statements.
