TITLE: Veterans' educational benefits

DESCRIPTION: In an effort to document the military service of any Utah resident from settlement of the territory until the present day, the Utah State Archives collected service records from all branches of the U.S._military, selective service documents, and veterans' education and training forms. This series consists of the Veterans Administration (VA) forms which were used by veterans to apply for financial benefits for education or training available to them. It also contains forms required by the University of Utah for veterans who enrolled in its programs. There is a minimum of correspondence originating from veterans, from schools, and from the Veterans Administration.

The forms include VA Certificate of Eligibility and Entitlement, VA Notice of Training Status, VA Notice of Expiration of Entitlement. Also included are later authorizations granted under Public Law 550, which was passed by the 82nd Congress; these are titled VA Certificate for Education and Training, and VA Enrollment Certification.

Common to the Veterans Administration forms is the following information: name and address of veteran, claim number, service serial number, conditions and period of entitlement, name of school or training establishment, date signed (approved, authorized), registration officer, and issuing (originating) office.
