DESCRIPTION: This series contains various records produced by the County Council of Defense to document the work of the council and the individuals from Washington County who served in the war. Among these records are list of those who served from each community, war service cards, a report of the activities of the council, along with a few newspaper clippings and some correspondence. The Washington County U.S. Forces list gives the names of those who served, grouped by community. For some individuals the list indicates where they served and if they were wounded or killed in action. The war service cards list the soldiers names, which branch of arms they served, and who was their nearest of kin. The series continues with a tribute to the soldiers through newspapers and photos. The series finishes with data of Washington County's War Activities from 1917 through 1918. Such as: a list of those were in charge of the various branches of the Council of Defense, The Red Cross Charter, supplies needed, finances subscribed and saved, and women's work.
