DESCRIPTION: The Division of Consumer Protection administers and enforces legislative acts created to protect consumers' interests (Utah Code 13-2-102 (2026)). These records include complaints filed with the Division against companies and individuals, and resulting investigations, and include identifying information for complainants and respondents, investigator case notes, records of legal actions taken, and amounts paid in settlements or penalties. This does not include case file evidence which is described in a separate retention schedule.

Under Utah Code 63A-19-401.1 (2026), the Utah Department of Commerce hereby discloses this record series includes personal data.

Personal data that may be contained in core case information may include name, home phone number, case summary, original complaint letter, complaint intake sheet, respondent's answer, interview notes, and investigative report.

The Division collects case file evidence to meet its statutory requirements for administration and enforcement pursuant to Utah Code 13-2-107 (2026).
