TITLE: Storytelling in Utah research files

DESCRIPTION: The Folk Arts Program received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to research traditional storytelling in Utah and produce a cassette tape and booklet. Fieldworkers identified and documented traditional settings where stories are told. Thirteen field recordings were published in cassette form with an accompanying booklet explaining the context and significance of the stories. The published version included storytelling settings based on the following genres: family and heritage, stories by and for children, Shoshone animal tales, and stories of immigration, fishing, hunting, river running, railroading, cowboy life, and quilting. David Stanley was the primary fieldworker for this project.
