AGENCY: Department of Cultural and Community Engagement. Division of Arts and Museums. Folk Arts Program
SERIES: 30951
TITLE: Mondays In The Park program records
DATES: 1987-2010.
ARRANGEMENT: Generally by format, thereunder usually by assigned project number.
DESCRIPTION: The Folk Arts Program presents a free summer concert series on Monday nights in front of the Chase Home Museum in Salt Lake City. Concerts were presented in August from 1987 to 1998. NOTE: In 1992 eight concerts were presented in July and August and those materials are filed under the project "Hecho en Utah." In 1999, one concert was held to celebrate the ground breaking of the Chase Home Museum renovation. No concerts were held in 2000, and starting in 2001, the series expanded to eight concerts in July and August. These one and-a-half-hour performances of folk music, ethnic dance and cowboy poetry complement the visual arts and crafts displayed in the museum. The concerts feature community traditions represented by both formal performance ensembles and by informal groups that maintain performing traditions because of their family, religious or occupational heritage. Utah residents are featured. Presentations are documented through sound recording and photography.
