AGENCY: Department of Cultural and Community Engagement. Division of Arts and Museums. Folk Arts Program

SERIES: 31005
TITLE: Highway 12 cultural survey records
DATES: 2003-2011.
ARRANGEMENT: none.

DESCRIPTION: Gael Hill of the Scenic Byway Committee contacted the Folk Arts Program about a product for Highway 12 similar to the Sanpete product. Ultimately the BLM via the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and the Glen Canyon National History Association produced the booklet while the Folk Arts Program, with assistance from the Utah Humanities Council, produced the CD. The booklet features the history, natural history and culture of the region while the CD explores these topics through the original songs and performances by area residents. With a grant from the Utah Humanities Council, public presentations of featured musicians were given in Torrey at the Entrada Institute and at the Escalante Arts Festival. Collection also includes copies of several interviews done in the 1980s for the Southern Utah Oral History Project.
