DESCRIPTION: This series contains letters, reports and other correspondence conducted by the so-called Committee of Nine, formed as a joint legislative committee to review the efficiency of state and local government, and public utilities. The organization of such a committee was set forth by a statute in March 1933 (Laws of Utah 1933, Chapter 86). Section 4 states that the committee shall have "power to visit and inquire into the offices and departments of all political subdivisions of the state." Similar wording appears in subsequent laws concerning the committee in August 1933 and 1935.
