DESCRIPTION: In response to President Carter's Executive Order 12049 in 1978, a cabinet level committee was established on the federal level to coordinate activities of several federal agencies and departments in relation to the MX missile project. The committee sponsored an MX Economic Adjustment Program and funded activities including (1) organization of commmunity groups, (2) planning for community impact assistance, (3) mobilization of private sector resources, and (4) implementation of community impact assistance. Officials from both Utah and Nevada applied for funding under this program. Information on various federal programs useful to local planning efforts was collected from the Office of Economic Adjustment and from other sources. The files contain reports, studies, correspondence, and other documents describing the recent history of community impact assistance programs in other parts of the country, and illustrating efforts by local officials in Utah and Nevada to obtain adequate resources for coping with anticipated impacts of MX deployment in these states.
