AGENCY: Lieutenant Governor

SERIES: 6218
TITLE: Building and loan association incorporation certificate record book
DATES: i 1890-1892.
ARRANGEMENT: Chronological.

DESCRIPTION: This record book contains copies of incorporation certificates issued by the Secretary of the Territory to those building and loan associations that incorporated in three Utah counties during this period. In 1890, legislation enabled building and loan associations to incorporate for the singular purpose of lending money to members for building and improving their homesteads. An association could draw up papers and file with the county probate court clerk who in turn sent copies to the territorial secretary who issued a certificate of incorporation. This book records a copy of the certificate for eleven associations in Salt Lake, Weber, and Cache counties. The certificate form has blanks for the name of the county, dates of filings, name of the building and loan association, the individuals to whom a license was issued, and the date and signature of the territorial secretary.
