AGENCY: Millard County (Utah). Justice of the Peace : Meadow Precinct

SERIES: 83345
TITLE: Docket book
DATES: i 1940-1952.
ARRANGEMENT: Chronological by year.

DESCRIPTION: This single volume is used to document individual criminal misdemeanor cases heard by the Meadow Precinct Justice Court. It contains the name of the justice of the peace, the date, the names of the parties involved, the criminal complaint, the type of papers filed, the decision rendered, and the amount of the fine of the length of the sentence imposed. An individual ledger column for keeping track of the associated fees and costs is included for each case.

Upon filling all blank pages in the criminal misdemeanor section, the justices began recording new cases in any available blank space remaining on pages previously used for prior cases (see pages 27-73) rather than start a new docket book. An alphabetically (by first letter of the surname) arranged case index appears at the beginning of the book, preceding the criminal misdemeanor case section. The preliminary hearing section (for criminal cases) at the back of the book was not used.
