DESCRIPTION: This system is used to pay all employees of the state of Utah. There are two cyclical activities which occur every two weeks: Preliminary Payroll updated on Friday at end of pay period; and, Payroll Calculations started at noon Tuesday before payday. Preliminary payroll involves the final corrections and adjustments to the hours worked and the amount an employee was paid before pay calculations are made. The next step involves the actual calculation of pay due an employee, taxes owed, and deductions to be made based on hours worked, current grade and step, and changes made to the employee's pay status. Updates can be made during either the preliminary payroll cycle or the payroll cycle.__It also updates the FIRMS accounting system with payroll data, and interfaces with the Position Control files (Schedule Six) and the Leave Accounting System. It produces registers and reports both on microfiche and printout which are used to manage, document payroll activity, and audit the system. Every agency has access to the ADABAS files within this system. It operates on IBM 308K computer, and all programs and files are created on either COBOL or NATURAL. This includes records series 8410-8453.
