Scope and Content

These records, acquired by the governor's office, document events surrounding the construction of Deer Creek Reservoir and the Salt Lake Aqueduct. These two projects and the Utah Lake project (diking the lake to decrease evaporation) are known as the Provo River Project. This series contains correspondence, reports, briefs and minutes. Reports on the projects' progress, engineering reports, lists of financial contributors, letters from individuals and companies exploring purchasing water, etc. can be found within these records.

The water for Deer Creek Reservoir, which was built on Provo River, also came from the Duchesne and Weber Rivers. The Provo River project was a Public Works program. The money for the project was advanced by the federal government and was to be paid back in forty annual installments without interest. The Provo River Project provided water for Provo, Salt Lake, and surrounding areas. The Salt Lake Aqueduct was built to transport water from Deer Creek Reservoirto Salt Lake City.
