Scope and Content

These sheets are the mortality schedules (schedule 2 ) from the 1870 federal census for Utah. For each county they show those who have died during the year ending 1 June 1870. Columns record the number of the family as given in schedule 1, name of deceased, age, sex, color (race), marital status, place of birth, parentage (mother or father foreign born), month of death, occupation, and cause of death. The information was recorded and certified by assistant marshals; the information was required to be submitted by the territorial marshal to the U.S. Department of the Interior.
