Scope and Content
This series contains a book of petitions for naturalization submitted to the court, along with documentation associated with the naturalization process. The petitions are on standardized forms that record a variety of information including the name of the petitioner, place of residence, occupation, place and date of birth, information about any spouse and children, and a statement affirming the petitioners intention to become a citizen and to renounce allegiance to any foreign nation. The form also contains information and signatures of witnesses testifying to the character of the petitioner.
In addition to the petitions, this series includes some other documents related to the naturalization process. Among these documents are certificates of arrival, citizenship certificate stubs retained by the court, and the petitioners' copies of their declarations of intention, which often include photographs of the petitioner. The series also contains a couple of forms called Application To TakeOath Of Allegiance To The United States, lists of citizenship petitions granted, and a couple of informational sheets issued by the U. S. Department of State.
A court order filed at the beginning of the series decrees that the District Court for Uintah County will relinquish jurisdiction in naturalization matters and in the future, such matters will be handled by the District Court for Utah County. This order, dated 26 February 1942, marks the end of the creation of this this record series.
