Series 28475

Tooele County (Utah). Board of Education Tooele County Recreation Commission minutes

Dates: 1945-1946.

These records are housed in the Utah State Archives' permanent storage room.

Scope and Content

This series contains the record of meetings of a board set up to "coordinate and administer public recreation services." The Commission operated under the jurisdiction of the County Board of Education, but coordinated with the Tooele County Commission and the Tooele City Council. The series includes a resolution of the Board of Education, establishing the Commission and elaborating the legal authority for such action and proscribing its organization and function. The meeting minutes typically include the date, time, and place of the meetings, along with a list of commission members in attendance. Topics discussed in the meetings include budget figures, expenditures, recreational activities and facilities in the county, and planning for community events.

While the known surviving minutes in this series end with a financial report dated July 1946, there is no indication that the Recreation Commission ceased functioning at that time. Rather, the end of these records seems to coincide with the resignation of Fred W. Huling, who had acted as executive secretary for the Commission.
