Scope and Content

This series contains two scrapbooks created by Judge Joseph Gaddis Jeppson (1904-1995) to document his life and career. The scrapbooks were created by pasting items into two published law books, covering over the original text. The scrapbooks are made up primarily of newspaper clippings, but also include such items as political campaign literature, sample election ballots, meeting programs, letters, and one photographic print. The majority of the materials in the scrapbooks relates to Jeppson's career as a judge, including cases he heard and his reelection campaigns. There are also materials relating to his involvement in various organizations, including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Boys Scouts of America, the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, the Kiwanis Club, and the Utah Amateur Movie Club.

Jeppson was appointed to served as a city court judge in Salt Lake City in 1940 and appointed to the bench in the 3rd Judicial District Court in 1946, where he served into the 1970s. During his tenure he presided over a wide variety of cases involving charges of traffic violations to murder.
