Scope and Content
This series contains a set of index cards used to summarize information about individuals who applied for naturalization in the district court in Beaver. These cards were likely created in the early 1940s and drew information from earlier records. The information is typed onto preprinted cards created by the U.S. Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Services (Form N-35). Information on the cards was drawn from a variety of records at the court. The cards note such information as the name of the applicant, place of residence, certificate number or record source, name of the court, country of birth, date of birth or age, date and port of arrival in the U.S., date of naturalization, and the names of witnesses. The reverse side of the cards provides space for other information, such cancellation of certificate, expatriation, and other notes, but most cards have no information on the reverse side.
The bulk of the naturalizations recorded in this series date from the 1870s through the 1890s. They were presumably created as an index to those who had naturalized in the court and as a reference source for the original naturalization records.
