Scope and Content

This series contains a register book documenting actions in criminal and probate cases heard by the court and recorded by the court clerk. This register of actions for criminal cases contains such information as the names of defendants, nature of the criminal charges, and filing dates for any associated affidavits, warrants, orders of transfer, bail bonds, appeals, motions, orders from the court, findings, and judgments. The entries for probate cases include a description of the matter before the court (estate, adoption, guardianship, etc.), the name of the attorney in the case, and a list of filing dates for the various documents filed in the case. The pre-printed book in this series was originally intended as a criminal register, but a portion of the book was used as a probate register between 1901 and 1908. It appears that cases prior to 1917 were not assigned case numbers, but criminal cases were retroactively assigned case numbers that corresponded with the page numbers in the register. Although the book includes a name index to cases, it appears that probate cases and criminal cases prior to 1946 were not included in that index.
