This index must include the following information\, date of filing\, kind of instrument\, number of instrument\, consideration\, book and page number where recorded\, and a brief description of the premises (Utah Code\, Unannotated\, 1988\, 17-21-6). This law\, enacted by the Territorial Legislature in 1888\, prompted the Washington County recorder to begin keeping this index (Laws of the Territory of Utah\, 1888\, chapter XLIX\, section 7). The grantee indexes provide access to a wide variety of documents relating to land ownership\, such as deeds\, mortgages\, notices\, affidavits\, mining claims and patents.
