Scope and Content

This series contains a series of published reports created by the multinational geological survey corporation, FUGRO. These reports include maps and reports that detail gravity surveys, mineral resource surveys, alternative energy sources surveys, and geotechnical siting investigations that were made by FUGRO staff to determine potential areas to place the MX missile system in Nevada and Utah. The information in these reports provides detailed compositional analysis of the rocks, minerals, and geophysical features in the region.

FUGRO was hired by the U.S. Air Force to conduct surveys and publish reports in conjunction with efforts to produce the Draft Environmental Impact Statement stipulated by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Copies of these reports were given to the various state and federal agencies directly responsible for planning for the impact of MX (a task handled on the county level by the MX Missile Impact Policy Board). It was through analysis of publishedmaterial from contracted companies hired by the U.S. Air Force (like FUGRO) that agency staff could analyze and provide comment on the merits of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement that was ultimately produced for MX in 1981.
